Engaging in Action Research: A Personal and Professional Journey towards an Inquiry into Teacher Morale in a Senior Secondary College

This article describes the author's journey as a practitioner researcher investigating the implementation of a study-group format in place of a formal meeting arrangement for the teaching team she leads. The inquiry has been initiated to explore the intervention as a way to promote teacher morale. The research site is a large senior secondary college in the state of Victoria, Australia. The preliminary results support influential joint action is taking place with a positive impact on teacher morale.

Scallops, Schools and Scholars: Reflections on the Emergence of A Research-Oriented Learning Project

This paper is based on the emergence of a small research group and its journey to enhance scholarly activity within a new school of education. The group explored a research-orientated learning project to determine what makes a beneficial school experience. Narrative enquiry and hermeneutic analysis were used to develop descriptions and interpretations of the phenomenon from the perspective of the participants. The analysis is presented and discussed to help understand the processes that contribute favorably to research capacity building in an academic institution.

Building Capacity through Teacher Enquiry: The Scottish Schools of Ambition

This article starts with a brief review of the recent history of teacher research in the UK in order to consider how pre- and in-service teachers are currently positioned in relation to research. Drawing on the case of the Scottish Schools of Ambition, the article identifies some of the challenges and opportunities presented by sponsored research engagement. The article suggests that teacher educators may have an important contribution to make to building capacity through teacher enquiry given their position as mediators between schools and university faculties of education.

Harnessing the Slipstream: Building Educational Research Capacity in Northern Ireland. Size Matters

High School Research and Critical Literacy: Social Studies With and Despite Wikipedia

He describes how he used Wikipedia to design classroom activities that address issues of authorship, neutrality, and reliability in information gathering. Theatre of the Self: Autobiography as Performance

This article grapples with the notion of 'autobiography as performance'. It specifically deals with the notion in relation to classroom narratives around Lather's 'ontological stammering' and Cavarero's 'the necessary other' played out under the practitioner-researcher's gaze. The article examines the shifting landscape of higher education, fraught with tensions as discourses of economic rationality and seem laced with expectations of teachers to be able to embrace all the possibilities that lie within diverse classroom 'realities'.

The Inter-Reflexive Possibilities of Dual Observations: An Account from and through Experience

The authors investigate the methodological possibilities of dual observation and 'inter-reflexive' interpretation as they have experienced this in a longitudinal ethnographic case study of music teaching and learning in an English Cathedral Choir School. The authors' goal is to understand the ways in which their particular historical, social and cultural perspectives lead them to partial yet complementary sensings, seeings, hearings and feelings in this setting.
